This
library was the first library in the Panhandle and southwestern
Kansas. The Library Club secured funds for the initial purchase
of books, and opened in a small building on Main Street. For
years it was maintained largely by donations from business men. |
| 1919 |
The Red
Cross building was converted into a library and the lots on
which
it stood were purchased. |
| 1932 |
On August
4th the Library Club deeded the building and lots to the City.
The city has since paid running expenses and the salary of the
librarian, but no funds for books. For books the library depended
upon gifts and the traveling libraries from the Oklahoma Library
Commission. |
